Principal Matters
If I haven’t already said so in person, “Welcome back to Emmaus 09!” After a week of heat, students and staff are enjoying being able to work without shirts stuck to our backs and beads of perspiration dripping off our noses.
We are proud to have raised over $1,100 toward the
Victorian Bushfire Appeal and continue to think about and pray for our fellow Australians in that awful predicament.
We welcome into our Preschool our first child of a former Emmaus student! Fleur Ashley (nee Beaumont) was in Yr 6 in 1997, the first year of the school, and could think of no place she’d rather have son Sonny go to school than her Alma
Mater, Emmaus. Welcome back, Fleur! Thanks for making me feel older!
A big thank you to our wonderful Gurneys and Frees who have lifted the face of our Canteen with generous and high quality professional workmanship and hours of effort in the Canteen. It looks fantastic and I’m sure the food
tastes better now! A big thank you also to another Emmaus family: the Salvair
business ‘Beracah Gardens’ for the outstanding landscaping just about complete
in the Secondary courtyard. I would recommend their work as a top-class job!
A book we would like to recommend to parents is titled ‘Have a New Kid by
Friday’ and is all about why kids do what they do and what parents and carers can do about it. A number of parents in the school highly recommended the book to me and I am finding it refreshing and inspirational. It is full of simple, practical ideas and powerful, positive strategies that really work to change attitudes, not just win a ‘battle’. The author, Dr Kevin Leman,
is a Christian psychologist who has raised 5 children. We have about 20 of these books for sale at the School Office for cost price ($12) and have already sold 8 or 9 of them. Come and see if
it might be what you’re looking for with your children, young or old!
